The contract for the twinning project on ‘Building the Capacity of the Egyptian Accreditation Council to deliver Accreditation Services' was signed on 18August 2008 by the Egyptian Accreditation Council, affiliated to the Ministry of Trade and Industry
and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service. This twinning project is worth 1,300,000 Euros and its implementation phase will take 24 months.
The overall objective is to further develop Egypt's quality infrastructure, thus increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian products in the international market as well as enhancing accessibility to EU markets.
The purpose of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the Egyptian Accreditation Council's (EGAC) role in the area of conformity assessment; paving the way for the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance (ACAA) being negotiated between Egypt and the EU.
